A safe, gentle, long-lasting treatment that addresses the root cause behind chronic pain, headaches, tight muscles, and nervous system dysregulation. Dr. Ashley, PT, DPT is the only certified AtlasPROfilax® specialist in the NJ, NY, and PA area.
AtlasPROfilax® works on the suboccipital muscles, a group of deep, short muscles located at the very top of the neck, where it meets the base of the skull. These muscles are directly connected to the atlas bone (C1 vertebra), the first cervical vertebra in your spine.
This small, ring-shaped bone carries the full weight of your head and acts as the foundation for your entire spinal column. When it’s in correct alignment, the body moves, breathes, and functions the way it was designed to.
But poor posture, bumps to the head, whiplash, and other incidents cause these suboccipital muscles to tighten and when they tighten, they pull the atlas bone into a slightly rotated position.

When the atlas is out of position, the rest of the neck must compensate to support it. This creates a cascade of muscular tension that moves progressively further down the body over time.
Poor posture, trauma, or stress causes the deep neck muscles to contract and hold tension chronically.
The tightened muscles pull the C1 vertebra into a slight rotation putting pressure on surrounding structures.
The rest of the neck and spine compensate for the misalignment leading to disc degeneration, disc bulging, disc herniation, scoliosis, and muscular pain.
The atlas also puts pressure on the arteries that carry blood flow to the brain contributing to tension headaches, migraines, brain fog, and dizziness.
Over time, the compensation pattern reaches the hips, knees, and feet creating balance issues, postural imbalance, and widespread muscular pain.
AtlasPROfilax® is a safe, non-manipulative neuromuscular massage technique that directly targets the suboccipital muscles. Using a specialized vibration device, Dr. Ashley gently releases the chronic tension that has built up in this area.
Once the muscles release, the atlas bone naturally returns to its correct position, without any cracking, twisting, or forceful manipulation. The result is immediate relief with long term results.

Dr. Ashley is the best. We drove about 7 hours from Virginia to New Jersey for our adjustment and follow up. She was flexible, friendly and very knowledgeable on this procedure. We had to cancel the day of our follow up due to an illness and her understanding was pleasant and top notch.
Highly recommend this procedure and her to be the one to do it. Beautiful town to make a trip to visit and a nice office location!!

Questions my clients ask!
AtlasPROfilax® is not something that needs to be done over and over. In fact, most of our clients only need to return once every 2-3 years on average!
Some clients like to come in once a year and others every few months, but this is dependent on lifestyle, injury, etc.
Typically, 2-3 years is what you can expect!
AtlasPROfilax® requires 2 appointments. At the initial appointment, we take a detailed medical history, perform an examination, and, if deemed appropriate, perform the treatment.
This initial session takes approximately 45 minutes, however, the treatment itself takes only 5-10 minutes depending on the patient.
A follow up appointment is typically scheduled for 3-4 weeks later where we review your progress.

Almost all AtlasPROfilax® clients see changes immediately after treatment. This is typically seen as range of motion improvement in neck mobility and decreased tension in the shoulder muscles.
Back pain, hip pain, knee pain, etc. typically take 1-3 weeks to show significant changes while headaches / migraines may take 2-5 weeks.
This all depends on the person and the extent of their ailments.
Have you ever had a tight muscle that felt a bit tender when you pressed on it? It's kind of like that.
Your suboccipital muscles are sensitive by nature and have likely been tight for a large portion of your life, so pressing into them may feel uncomfortable or painful depending on your tolerance.
The good thing is that the whole thing only takes about 5 minutes! You can do it!

AtlasPROfilax® indirectly affects the position of the C1 vertebrae (known as the Atlas bone) by addressing the soft tissue (fascia/muscle) that attaches to it.
There are no quick thrusts or manipulations. You could think of it more as a deep massage.
By addressing the soft tissue restrictions, AtlasPROfilax provides lasting relief with just one treatment.
Yes — AtlasPROfilax® is a gentle, non-invasive technique with no manipulation, no cracking, and no forceful movements. It has been practiced worldwide since the 1990s and has an excellent safety record.
Dr. Ashley's background as a Doctor of Physical Therapy adds an additional layer of clinical expertise and safety assessment to every session. Before any treatment is performed, she conducts a thorough intake and examination to confirm that AtlasPROfilax® is appropriate for you.
